Great Sailing Experiences for Sailors & Novices

Many sailors think of sailing the high seas in a yacht or a small boat - whether chartered sailing or bareboat sailing - as the ultimate freedom. Untied from specific routes, you can sail alone on your boat in a vast expanse of ocean, or island hop on a whim. The best sailing spots in the world combine a bit of both.

But learning to sail competently is an arduous process, and expensive too. Beginners can enjoy the charms of sailing at all levels - from learning to sail in local sailing schools on dinghies like the firefly or the optimist, for example on the south coast of the UK or on the east cost of america - to yacht charters in exotic islands with a crew. For a great and less expensive introduction, try a flotilla sailing holiday in the eastern Mediterranean.
