This trek is a comprehensive journey through the heart of Sherpa country and in sight of the most spectacular mountains in the world. A strenuous 20-day trek, it starts at Lukla (at 9,000’ - a short scenic flight from Kathmandu) and takes you through picturesque mountain villages to the rarified air of the Himalayan turquoise lakes and peaks, reaching the highest point at 18,300 feet. The scenery is amazing with five of the highest peaks of the Himalayas visible from Kala Pattar, a high moraine ridge right across from Everest Base Camp, and again from Chhukhung Ridge. The beauty of the mountains is echoed in the local people, the Sherpas, renown for their climbing skills, but unforgettable for their cheerful spirit and joyous laughter. April/May and October/November are the best times to trek in this region, with dry and sunny weather mostly. The monsoon hits the area between June and September, and the winter months are too cold and the days too short for such an undertaking.
